Hop Along, Bat Fangs and Bad Moves at 9:30 Club
DC’s very own Bad Moves kicked off this stacked lineup at the 9:30 Club on Tuesday night with their incredibly fun brand of punky power pop. The quartet was followed by Bat Fangs, who also have some claim to DC fame – local heavyweights Ex Hex can also claim singer/guitarist Betsy Wright as their own. Paired with NC-based drummer Laura King, the duo brought an unstoppable energy to the venue.
Philadelphia’s Hop Along rounded out the night. The headliners beautifully recreated the complex sounds of their critically acclaimed third album Bark Your Head Off, Dog in front of a stunning backdrop of floating, incandescent lightbulbs. Between songs, the band playfully quipped with the audience about their “super happy” lyrics (singer Frances Quinlan is known to meditate on serious, timely themes) and the joys of Segway and scooter tours in DC. Hop Along brought Bat Fangs back onstage for “Prior Things,” the perfect way to round out a night of incredible talent and musicianship.
