Alt-Rock Queen Garbage’s Shirley Manson

More than 20 years have passed since Garbage’s first album hit airwaves, gifting the 90s with their revolutionary sound that wraps alt-rock, grunge, trip-hop and even some pop sensibilities into one badass package. It seems only fitting that one of the most influential rock bands of the past two decades, revered by Gen Xers and […]

Aimee Mann in performance at The Lincoln Theater in Washington, DC on April 20, 2017.
Aimee Mann brought her smart, catchy and somewhat cynical pop sensibility to The Lincoln Theater stage to open her tour in support of her newest album,"Mental Illness." Although described by at least one reviewer as "her best work in years," a cynic might observe that every new Aimee Mann album represents her best work in years. Judging from her performance this night (a mix of "hits," deep cuts, and the new songs), Ms. Mann's songwriting, performance and stage presence skills are still top-notch.
For more on Aimee, her music, and current tour find her on FB or here: And check out "Mental Illness." Everybody should have it.

Valerie June's sold out performance at Sixth and I Synagogue in Washington, DC on March 9, 2017.

Ms. June reminds me of Supremes era Diana Ross, not so much for her music, but for the on-stage presence combination of talent, strength, beauty and vulnerability. She spoke of how her songs come to her through dreams and singing voices. And what songs! I heard delta blues, funk, folk, rock, Motown and soul. Her newest recording, "The Order of Time" is out now.
