Pop-Up Magazine is the internationally renowned “live magazine” created for a stage, a screen, and a live audience. Our “Winter Issue” in D.C. will feature never-before-heard reported stories by contributors including: National Geographic photographer David Guttenfelder; podcast hosts Brittany Luse and Eric Eddings of Gimlet’s The Nod; writers Nathaniel Rich (King Zeno; writer at large, The New York Times Magazine), Jon Mooallem (Wild Ones; writer at large, The New York Times Magazine), Albert Samaha (BuzzFeed News); TV writer Cord Jefferson (The Good Place, Master of None); filmmakers Erin Lee Carr (HBO’s Mommy Dead and Dearest, and David Carr’s daughter) and Veena Rao (The New York Times Op-Docs) and much more. They’ll perform multimedia stories accompanied by illustration, animation, photos, and an original score by Magik*Magik Orchestra. The stories will touch on everything from a lifelong friendship between two 100-year-old WWII army nurses to a choose-your-own-adventure story to a close look at the crisis in North Korea. Nothing is recorded or goes online after, making this a true “one-night-only” experience of live journalism. Here’s a quick trailer to give you a sense of the show, in case you’ve never been: https://vimeo.com/248178510.
