More on Michael Brunnock:
In this special St. Patrick’s Day solo show, Michael will bring music old and young from Ireland, sharing family songs and stories handed down with a natural wit and sincerity.
Michael has an extraordinary voice, whose songs mine the profound. It is not surprising that David Byrne cast him to sing the role of an Irish musician on the brink of success whose voice guides Sean Penn through an emotional journey of self-discovery in This Must Be the Place. The score by Byrne with lyrics by Will Oldham (Bonnie Prince Billy) called for a distinctive vocalist, which Brunnock is. Michael has won an Italian Oscar (Di Donatello) for the best original song If it falls and has written and performed music for Italian movies Noi 4 and Manuel.
Brunnock’s roots are deeply evident on the acclaimed The Orchard, a collection of gorgeously crafted songs featuring guest performances from Glen Hansard, Julia Stone, Ari Hest and Joe Sumner.
Michael has collaborated with acclaimed Irish playwright Deirdre Kinahan (Solas Nua: Wild Sky and The Frederick Douglass Project), on a new musical project called Ettie, a reimagining of the story of Ettie Steinberg, one of the very few Irish citizens to die in the Holocaust. He is currently finishing a song cycle based on poetry and letters by Sir Roger Casement.
